The 2017 People's Choice Awards had One Direction fans split in two directions -- and they chose Niall Horan!
The boybanders went up against his former bandmate Zayn Malik at Wednesday's awards show, where both were nominated for Favorite Breakout Artist, but it was Horan who came out on top.

The category's other nominees included Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers and DNCE, though neither Horan nor Malik showed up to the event.
The show also included another awkward pairing, although not in the in the same category. Famous exes Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears won Favorite Male and Female Artist, respectively.
ET caught up with Horan, who released his first solo single, "This Town," in September, at the AMAs last fall, where he said he was looking forward to reuniting with Malik after the 24-year-old singer left 1D in 2015.
