Celebrity makeup artist Matin showed ET that there is more to looking good on the Oscars red carpet than fancy shoes and a gorgeous gown.

The New York-based makeup artist and ChapStick Brand Ambassador is responsible for the red-carpet looks of some of your favorite stars, so ET teamed up with ChapStick and sent our senior news editor Jennifer Peros to dig up some pro insider tips!

Matin dove in by demystifying one of the biggest makeup trends of the season -- pairing a smokey eye with a soft, sophisticated lip.

"I always prep with a lip scrub to help smooth out the lips and create a perfect canvas for the color," Matin said. "I'm using the ChapStick Total Hydration Conditioning Lip Scrub. It will exfoliate and smooth out the lips."

For the smokey eye, Matin always starts with a pencil.

"Then I will use a powder eye shadow to finish the look," he said.

Matin completed his handiwork with ChapStick's Total Hydration Moisture + Tint.

"There are three shades to choose from, and no matter which one you choose, it enhances the natural color of the lips," he said.

The 89th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on ABC. Watch the video for more!
