Meryl Streep is undoubtedly the finest actress of her generation.
In addition to the Cecil B. DeMille Award, it was announced that Streep is nominated for her 30th Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical in Florence Foster Jenkins.
In addition to furthering her record as the most nominated person at the Golden Globes with 30 nominations, Streep is the first person since Sophia Loren to be nominated the same year as receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
GOLDEN GLOBES: 2017 Nominations Revealed
Loren, who was the recipient of the honorary award in 1995, was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for Ready to Wear. The only other two people do the same are Judy Garland (1962) and Maurice Chevalier (1959). However, no one has won both in the same night.
“It’s no surprise that the HFPA has chosen Meryl Streep as the recipient of the 2017 Cecil B. DeMille Award. Meryl’s enthralling body of work across a diverse set of genres has made her a role model over the past 40 years, and she will continue to do so for generations to come,” HFPA president Lorenzo Soria said in a statement. “She has always taken roles with strong female leads, creating art by showing vulnerability and portraying truth on the big screen. Simply put, she is a trailblazer, having paved the way for women in television, film and stage. For shattering gender and age barriers, all with finesse and grace, the HFPA is humbled to bestow this honor upon her.”

Regardless if Streep wins for her role in Florence Foster Jenkins, the Cecil B. DeMille Award will mark her ninth statue, tying her with Barbra Streisand for the most wins. If she wins her category, Streep will have 10 statues, setting a new record for overall honors.
Streep has previously won eight Golden Globes, including Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for Iron Lady in 2012 and Sophie’s Choice in 1983. On the Comedy or Musical side, the 67-year-old actress has won for Julie & Julia and The Devil Wears Prada.
The 74th Golden Globes, which are hosted Jimmy Fallon, will be handed out live on Sunday, Jan. 8, starting at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
