Bryan Singer Fired as Director of Queen Biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

Bryan Singer has been fired from his directing gig on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

“Bryan Singer is no longer the director of Bohemian Rhapsody," the film’s studio, Twentieth Century Fox, confirmed in a statement to ET.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the move came amid growing conflict between the 52-year-old director and lead actor Rami Malek, who is portraying the band’s legendary frontman, Freddie Mercury.

Fueling tension was an incident on Friday, where production on the movie was halted due to Singer not showing up to the film London’s set.

The studio blamed Singer’s “unexpected unavailability,” and his rep told ET in a statement that a "personal health matter concerning Bryan and his family" was behind the absence and that he hoped to return to set after the holidays.

The film is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2018.

Earlier this year, Malek discussed how thrilled he was to have landed the role, telling ET: "I'm stoked. I mean, one of the most iconic bands ever and just to be a part of that is huge."
