Fourteen of Hollywood's fiercest actresses are the subjects of Pirelli's 2017 Calendar -- and the photos are far from the red carpet glamour that fans are accustomed to seeing.
Nicole Kidman, Robin Wright, Julianne Moore, Jessica Chastain, Uma Thurman, Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Lupita Nyong'o are among the stars that went nearly makeup-free while posing for renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh in the 44th edition of the calendar. As far as fashion is concerned, the actresses are dressed in simple black and white styles, with Chastain donning lacy lingerie, Moore in a bodysuit and Wright in a tiny pair of shorts and vest.
The Pirelli portraits celebrate "natural beauty and femininity," and in a behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot, Winslet, 41, says Lindbergh encouraged her to "be free and be strong" while posing for him.
"He really wanted me to be very natural," Kidman, 49, adds.
As for Moore, she took her photo with "no makeup on and wet hair."
"You can almost see a little bit of the soul," Cruz, 42, says of the photographer's work. Thurman, 46, agrees, touting, "It's almost like an interview but with a camera."
"As an artist, I feel I’m responsible for freeing women from the idea of eternal youth and perfection," Lindbergh says of his goal for this photo shoot. "The ideal of perfect beauty promoted by society is something that simply can’t be attained.”
