Blue Ivy's TV debut Sunday night is certainly what everyone is talking about, but the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards saw a lot of shocking moments prior to Beyonce's scene-stealing two-year-old daughter hitting the stage.

From Katy Perry's Britney Spears fashion flashback to Taylor Swift's sans pants style statement, here are nine VMA instances worth reliving.

Hold It Together

Nicki Minaj almost pulled a "Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl" during the first performance of the night. Upon doing a super-quick clothing change after rapping her "Anaconda" song, Minaj hit the stage again with Ariana Grande and Jessie J for "Bang Bang", but was grasping her little black dress with her hands, desperately avoiding a wardrobe malfunction.

Intimidated by all the "big fat asses" at the VMAs, comedian Chelsea Handler thanked Taylor Swift for being "so white" following her adorable "Shake It Off" performance.

Bootylicious

From the red carpet to the performance stage, there were a whole lotta booties. Nicki Minaj celebrated big butts with her "Anaconda" song, while Beyonce and Iggy Azalea also flaunted their lady lumps. Not to mention, Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian and Amber Rose were in attendance.

Harry and Lloyd Are Back!

In promotion of their highly anticipated sequel Dumb & Dumber Too, Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey took the stage to present "Problem" singer Ariana Grande with Best Pop Video. However, things got a little out of hand when Carrey took one of his jokes a bit too far and ended up falling off the stage -- or as we call it now, "pulling an Iggy Azalea."

No Pants, No Problem

It seems Taylor Swift shook off her pants when she shook off country music. Making her VMA debut as an official pop star, the blonde beauty stepped out in a baby blue, alphabet-printed romper. The Mary Katrantzou getup-- that the "Shake It Off" singer paired with sky-high Elie Saab shoes-- really made her look like she had legs for days ...maybe even months.

Fashion Flashback

Katy Perry paid omage to Britney Spears by donning her iconic head-to-toe denim style that the pop princess first wore to the 2001 VMAs alongside her then (denim-clad) boyfriend Justin Timberlake.

"We're wearing custom Versace," said Katy, posed next to Riff Raff. "A throwback to Britney and Justin."

Miley's Good Cause

Who knew "Wrecking Ball" would be helping homeless people?!

After twerking and tongue-wagging in 2013, Miley Cyrus showed up at this year's VMAs in tears. Winning for Video of the Year, she passed up accepting the award herself and instead had a guy named Jesse take the stage "on behalf of the runaways and homeless youth." Cyrus watched on in tears as Jesse described how he "survived at shelters all over the city." He told the audience, "I have been an extra in your movies. I have been an extra in your life. Though I have been invisible in your life, I have the same dreams as many [of you]."

J.Lo Is How Old?!

Jennifer Lopez certainly didn't skimp out on showing some skin when she stepped out in this Charbel Zoe dress. Pairing the scantily-clad style with Jimmy Choo shoes, a Thale Blanc clutch, and Norman Silverman rings and earrings, she made it impossible to believe that she turned 45 this summer.

Blue's Debut

Blue Ivy left her mom Beyonce in tears when she hit the VMA stage in the arms of her dad Jay Z to present Mrs. Carter with the Vanguard Award. One of the more adorable moments of the night was when Blue was spotted dancing on her dad's lap as Beyonce performed a medley of her hits. This VMA family affair also helped to squash the rumors that Bey and Jay are on the outs.
