Kevin Smith is continuing to get healthier and leaner following his massive heart attack in late February, but the outspoken filmmaker admits that some days are harder than others when it comes to eating right.
The 47-year-old Clerks director took to Instagram on Wednesday to share side-by-side snapshots of what he looked like in October 2008, juxtaposed next to his now slimmer countenance.
"Same dude, different day. Pic on the left, is from nearly 10 years ago, at Zack & Miri premiere. Pic on the right is minutes ago," Smith wrote.
Currently, the acclaimed indie director is in Manhattan, which he says is "legendary for its amazing variety of food and eating options" and calls it a "land of food, glorious food." However, because he's on a diet, he can't have any of it -- and he's actually managed to stick with it.
"So even though they served what looked like an amazing buttercream cake at the @amc_tv event I went to last night, I didn’t indulge," Smith shared. "And next time I gotta stare down a meal the old me would’ve inhaled, I’ll look at these two images of me out on control and me under control. It’ll help keep the cake on the plate instead of in my maw."
Earlier this month, Smith shared another post promoting the release of "the comedy special I was shooting… the night I almost died of a heart attack," and his impressive weight loss is even more apparent in a wider shot.
Smith was rushed to the hospital on the night of Feb. 25 while filming a stand-up comedy special in Glendale, California, and underwent surgery to clear a massive blockage of his left anterior descending artery, which could have easily killed him if not for emergency surgery.
When Smith suffered the heart attack, he'd already lost 80-90 pounds over the last seven years, but he said in a Facebook Live video, posted the day after his surgery, that his doctors told him that years of obesity had already done significant damage.
Since returning home, Smith has been very candid about his weight-loss efforts and steadfast determination to get fit. Smith gave fans a health update in early April, where he revealed that he'd already managed to shed 30 pounds in just under a month through healthy, smarter eating.
