Looks like Will Smith won't be saving the world from an alien invasion after all. Following news that an Independence Day sequel will be hitting theaters in 2015, moviegoers might be disappointed to hear that the first film's protagonist will not be returning.

"Will Smith cannot come back because he's too expensive, but he'd also be too much of a marquee name," director Roland Emmerich told Complex magazine. "It would be too much."
