Manilow was in good spirits while speaking with ET on Tuesday, as he was honored with the Icon Award at the BMI Pop Awards.
"I can't consider myself an icon," he said. "I'm just very proud that BMI chose me this year because this award is all about song writing and that's what means the most to me in my career."
The 73-year-old singer also opened up about fans' incredible response after revealing that he married his longtime partner and manager, Garry Keif, in 2014.
"The more I thought about it, the more I realized that's what I expected from these people. They've been supportive of me from the very beginning. All they care about is that I'm happy!" he gushed. "And when that came out, I expected them to react like that. I am so proud that they did."
