Sister Wives patriarch Kody Brown has divorced one wife in order to legally wed another.

Kody recently divorced first wife Meri and is now legally married to his fourth wife, Robyn.

But those who are looking for a contentious reason for the apparent split will be disappointed – the Browns tell ET in a statement that they made “the decision together as a family” and remain united.

TMZ reports that the move was designed to bring legal benefits like insurance to Robyn’s three children from her first marriage, Dayton, Aurora and Breanna, which reinforces the close family ties the Browns display on their hit TLC reality show. Fans will remember an episode from earlier this season when Dayton underwent surgery to repair a serious eye injury.

The Browns tell ET, “We have chosen to legally restructure our family. We made this decision together as a family. We are grateful to our family, friends and fans for all their love and support.”

The polygamist family includes a total of 17 children and two additional wives, Janelle and Christine, neither of whom have ever been legally wed to Kody. Sister Wives airs on Sunday nights at 9/8c on TLC.
