Bruce Jenner's Emotional New Promo: 'How Does My Story End?'
By Antoinette Bueno
Bruce Jenner's highly anticipated interview with Diane Sawyer airs tomorrow on ABC, and in a brand-new promo that debuted Thursday, the 65-year-old Olympian touches on what he calls an "emotional roller coaster."
"I want to know how this story ends, you know?" he asks. "How does my story end?"
So far, the promos for ABC's interview with Bruce have been vague -- the first 15-second promo release didn't even show his face. According to the AP, this is intentional, as potentially "outing" a public figure before the person has a chance to publicly address the topic himself is obviously frowned upon.
Nick Adams, program director of transgender media for GLAAD, tells the AP that ABC's handling of the story has been "respectful."
"Sharing one's story is something a person should be allowed to do in their own time and in their own way," Adams says. "Media speculation about a public figure's gender identity increases harmful scrutiny on other transgender people."
"You have to separate Bruce Jenner and Bruce's story from the media circus that is the Kardashians," ET and The Insider executive producer Brad Bessey adds. "I think people will be watching. I hope they'll be listening."
Sawyer herself, who spoke to Bruce in February for what ABC calls a "far-ranging, exclusive" that promises to show Jenner's "journey," "decisions" and "future," has remain tight-lipped about the interview. However, she's scheduled to promote it on Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Michael and The View tomorrow.
Bruce's 20/20 special airs Friday, April 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
