Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer kicked off Internet Week New York by spilling secrets about Broad City, their web series-turned-hit Comedy Central sitcom.

Among the tidbits the two stars told Marie Claire editor-in-chief Anne Fulenwider was that Mark Consuelos was originally cast as Abbi’s hot neighbor. “Mark Consuelos was the original Jeremy -- in the original pilot he was Jeremy,” Jacobson said. Comedy Central confirmed that casting news was true.

The revelation came during a conversation about Kelly Ripa’s recent surprise cameo on the show (watch below), which garnered a lot of attention for Ripa’s on-screen drug use and dirty language.

“Kelly Ripa was so amazing because she was so down to do anything, and we thought it would be very difficult to get her,” Jacobson said. “It was like, ‘Let’s take this person that you all know as being all-American and really have fun with her,’ and she was like, ‘It was so much f--king fun.’ She was amazing and I think people watch it and they’re like, ‘Holy s**t!’”

In fact, the episode was inspired by a story that the Broad City ladies knew about a “wealthy famous celebrity” who liked to steal coats.

While Ripa’s parody of herself was surprising for fans of her morning talk show, Live! with Kelly and Michael, Consuelos part on the show could have been more shocking. In season two, Jeremy and Abbi finally hook up after a season and a half of flirting from across the hall. However, things get complicated when Jeremy wants Abbi to “peg” him with a certain sex toy.

Now, just take a moment to imagine that.

ET has reached out to Consuelos for additional insight to his would-be role on the show.
