Back off, boys!

There's a new superhero kicking ass on Earth and she's finally flying into your TV screens tonight.

We've been saying for months how much we adore CBS's new crime-fighting drama, Supergirl, and now it's time for the world to meet -- and fall in love with! -- super starlet, Melissa Benoist.

So why should fans be pumped for this fierce female hero to save the day? "It doesn't matter that she's a girl," Benoist spilled exclusively to ET on the set of Supergirl. "That's not what you're going to remember her for. She's so brave, and inspiring, and hopeful and that's what is most important."

The Glee alumni gushed that she's thrilled for Kara Zor-El to become a role model for girls everywhere. "I think the positive influence that this role has is sort of beyond my comprehension right now. Every time I'm around [girls], especially a little girl, it just warms my heart."

And of course, you can't be a superhero without a super suit! Luckily, Benoist is overjoyed with the way her iconic, and cape-tastic costume came together.

"It's comfortable," she dished. "I think on the scale of superhero garb, I have it pretty easy. I think it's sophisticated. I love this outfit."

We were surprised to discover that there is one person who loved Supergirl's suit even more than Benoist did: her mom!

"My mom was on set when we shot the pilot," Benoist recalled with a smile. "And I remember she just kept looking over at me and kind of looking me up and down and she would just giggle."

The 27-year-old star continued, "She'd be like, 'Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think you would do something like this, but now that you are, it's just so fun!'"

Supergirl premieres tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
