Dominic Purcell Breaks His Nose on 'Prison Break' Set After Bar Falls on His Head -- See the Gruesome Pics
By Jackie Willis
Dominic Purcell posted some pretty gnarly pics of his recent injury while on set of the new Prison Break.
The 46-year-old star -- who plays Lincoln Burrows on the Fox series -- Instagrammed that he "had a little accident" on Monday, but his Instagram photos tell a different story. A source close to production informs ET that Purcell was injured after a set piece was dislodged and fell on his head.
"Pays to have a thick skull when an iron bar falls on your #head!!" Purcell captioned a selfie of his bruised face. "Busting it open severely, also broke my nose in two places."
Making light of the accident, he added, "Haha. I got a free nose job out of it. Stoked to be alive. All good."
The Aussie actor also said he got 100 stitches in his head.
According to our source, the actor was "immediately taken to the hospital for treatment" following the incident. "Doc said I have an unusually tough tissue fiber that's what saved me apparently," Purcell continued. "Thank god for my #Viking heritage hahaha!!!"
"We are happy to report that he is in great spirits and is expected to make a full recovery," Fox said in statement to ET on Friday. "He wanted us to express his appreciation to the fans around the world who have expressed their concern and support, and to reassure them that he will be back at work very soon."
Purcell's longtime girlfriend, former 90210 star AnnaLynne McCord, was on set when the accident occurred, and according to her boyfriend, went into "momma mode."
"Thank god my love @theannalynnemccord was there when my unfortunate accident occurred on set," he captioned a pic of himself and the 28-year-old actress before the accident. "She went into raging #momma mode along with #christinanorthup and got me the right care. Show goes on. No worries!!! Oh, being airlifted out on a helicopter was another adventure I didn't expect. Thought the bloody thing was going to fall from the sky!!! What a day it was. Grateful to be alive."
