'Window Warriors' Judge Carson Kressley Talks Design Challenges and 'Tension' On the New GSN Show
By Andi Rocco
There's a new design show coming to GSN, and it's all about the art of the window display.
ET caught up with Window Warriors' design judge, Carson Kressley, ahead of the show's premiere, where he revealed the aesthetic challenges the designers will face and what happens when tensions get high.
"The challenges have a twist," said the 46-year-old fashion expert. "I think that's what makes it so fun, it's not just about creating a really beautiful window."
The Queer Eye star also dished on the thought-provoking material the designers will have to work with -- and it sounds like there will be a lot of movement going on.
"Sometimes they have to use upcycled material, sometimes they have to use a living mannequin, sometimes they have to use live plant materials," explained Kressley. "It really depends on the brand, what they want, but those additional challenges make it interesting, make it really creative."
The designs will be judged based on brand messaging, creativity, and execution, ultimately testing the contestants' talents and ability to work quickly, with only one day to complete the challenge.
"At the end of the day, it's about art meeting commerce," said the design expert.
And what happens when you put that many creative minds in one room? Toes get stepped on -- literally and figuratively.
"They're working in tight quarters, under a deadline, they kind of stepped on each other's creative toes a couple of times," said Kressley, referring to Window Warriors designers Edward Sajovic and Spencer Zalkin. "Actually, literally stepped on each others toes because it was such a tight working space. So there was some tension there."
As for his fellow judges, style influencer Tai Beauchamp and master of visual merchandising Douglas Little, Kressley said they will each bring their own fresh perspective on branding and marketing.
"[Tai Beauchamp] has worked with so many consumer brands that she really understands the brand messaging part," he said enthusiastically. "Douglas Little is the real deal...he was really great at speaking to the execution of the window."
Window Warriors premieres tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on GSN.
