The 53-year-old anchor, who is currently on leave from her gig hosting the fourth hour of Today, surprised viewers with her adoption announcement late last month.

"One of the things in my life I’ve always wanted was to be a mom," Kotb admitted in a candid new interview with People. "Sometimes in your life, things just don’t work out for whatever reason, so you say, 'Well, I wasn’t meant to have that.’ But it was really hard to come to terms with it."

Of course, life has changed for Kotb, who still can’t believe that she’s officially a mom. "I wake up sometimes and go, 'Oh my God, I have a baby!'" she gushed. "But it feels totally real. I guess if you've been waiting this long for something, and you wish for it, pray for it, hope for it, wonder if it will ever be, and then it happens, nothing’s more real. Nothing."

As a father of three, Lauer can likely relate to Kotb’s parental excitement. While he mostly keeps his children out of the spotlight, the veteran TV host was recently spotted out at a New York Knicks game with his son, Jack.
