On Monday night, Dancing With the Stars aired one of its most shocking eliminations ever when frontrunner Heather Morris was sent home after she and her partner, Maks Chmerkovskiy, landed the first perfect score of the season.

Not only was it a heartbreaking moment for the former Glee star, but Chmerkovskiy had just returned to the ballroom after sitting out for the past few weeks due to a serious calf injury. The dance pro’s dancer fiancée, Peta Murgatroyd, spoke to ET’s Cameron Mathison after the show aired to share her reaction to the news.
“I'm so upset for him. He was so excited,” Murgatroyd told ET of Chmerkovskiy. “He was just getting over his calf injury, and I mean, I swear they were gonna be in the finals. I mean, they're incredible together. I just don't understand it. But you know the show is based so heavily on fan votes, so I think that's just it. They just lacked that I guess.”
Murgatroyd’s partner, Nick Viall, mirrored her sentiment, adding, “I'm super bummed about Maks and Heather.”
Fortunately, Viall has managed to pull through thanks to some help from his fans.
“That's the – sorry -- that's the thing with this show. It's not just a dancing competition. You know that. It's a popularity contest,” Murgatroyd said. “He's a popular guy.”
