Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia's first-ever state visit to Britain has already kicked off with a bang.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip made the formal welcome on Wednesday, which included a royal salute from the Guard of Honor. The queens made a colorful pair for the occasion, with 91-year-old Queen Elizabeth sporting a fuschia suit, while 44-year-old Queen Letizia wore a pale yellow ensemble and a matching hat.

The Spanish royals then enjoyed a private lunch with the royal family at Buckingham Palace, traveling in separate carriages with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Their packed itinerary includes having afternoon tea with Prince Charles and Camilla at their home, Clarence House, and a state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday evening, which Prince Harry is expected to attend.

The last incoming state visit by a Spanish king -- Felipe's father, King Juan Carlos -- was in 1986. The royal visit will last three days.
