Mindy Kaling Is Reportedly Pregnant With Her First Child
By Jackie Willis
Mindy Kaling's next project might be motherhood.
The 39-year-old actress is reportedly pregnant with her first child, according to multiple reports. An insider tells E! News, who first reported the story, that the baby news was an "unexpected surprise," but as for her production schedules, it will be business as usual for the writer-actress.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Style, Kaling talked about the possibility of being a mom one day and who would be the father. "I think I've decided that unlike everything else in my life, I'm going to be fast and loose about kids," she said. "I'm not cavalier about who I would have a kid with. But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have, is that they wish they had kids earlier."
Kaling -- who previously dated Benjamin Nugent from 2008 to 2012 and her Office co-star, B.J. Novak, from 2005 to 2007 -- noted that she was considering having a child "maybe imminently."
Fans of The Mindy Project already have an idea of what Kaling looks like with a baby bump, as her character, Dr. Mindy Lahiri, had a surprise pregnancy of her own on the series. At the time, Kaling shared a pic on Instagram of her faux bump, along with a witty caption. "What is the opposite of 'barefoot and pregnant'? That is what my costume designer @salvadorperezcostumes has custom made for Mindy Lahiri. And while Jane Birkin may be mad at Hermes, Mindy Lahiri is not. #themindyproject," she wrote.
While Kaling kept mum about her reported pregnancy over the weekend, she did praise her Wrinkle in Time co-stars, Oprah Winfrey and mother-of-three Reese Witherspoon, when chatting with ET. "The two of them are known for their generosity, but it's not just generosity of things -- they want to share physically with you," she gushed over her famous co-stars. "Their favorite English muffins, their favorite music, their favorite makeup brands, but also with advice and life experience. You just come in every day and learn something incredible."
