'The Walking Dead' Cancels Comic-Con Press Events After Stuntman's Death

Prepare to see a little less of The Walking Dead at Comic-Con this year.

The AMC series has canceled all press events at the 2017 convention except its panel and autograph sessions, ET confirms. Stars Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Melissa McBride, Seth Gilliam, Alanna Masterson, Khary Payton and Chandler Riggs are all expected to attend.

The news follows the tragic death of stuntman John Bernecker, who died last Wednesday after falling 20 feet from a balcony onto a concrete floor while filming a scene with actor Austin Amelio (Dwight).

“Our production is heartbroken by the tragic loss of John Bernecker,” showrunner Scott Gimple said in a statement last Friday. “John’s work on The Walking Dead and dozens of other movies and shows will continue to entertain and excite audiences for generations.”

The Walking Dead, which reportedly resumed production on Monday, released a new promo poster on Wednesday, and will be premiering it's upcoming eighth season -- and 100th episode -- on Oct. 22.
