EXCLUSIVE: Mariah Carey Advises Lionel Richie on Rumored 'American Idol' Gig: 'Don't Do It'

Mariah Carey is giving her thoughts on the highly anticipated American Idol reboot.

The 47-year-old singer was a judge on season 12 of the hit music competition, and memorably clashed with fellow judge Nicki Minaj. ET spoke with Carey after her latest stop on her "All The Hits" tour with Lionel Richie at the Hollywood Bowl on Monday night, where she commented on reports that 68-year-old Richie was being tapped to be a judge.

"I would say, don't do it," Carey told ET's Carly Steel. "No, I'm only kidding. If he wants to do it, that'll be great. I think he would be really good at it."

Of course, the mother of two has made no secret about her own negative experience on Idol, once calling it the "worst experience" of her life.

"Yeah, they just were trying to foil me when I went on there," Carey commented. "So, you know, that's the only reason why I say that [to Richie]."

As for Katy Perry, who's already confirmed she will be a judge on the reboot, Carey had nothing but positive words.

"She'll be good too," Carey said. "They both will be good."

Earlier this month, Ryan Seacrest announced he'll be returning to host Idol.

"I don't know if you've ever been in a 15-year relationship, and then -- for a reason you don't really know -- you break up!" Seacrest said of his return on Live With Kelly and Ryan. "And I thought, 'Gosh, it would be great to get back together at some point.'"
