“At the end of his first season, I played his ex-partner. We were cops together, we were detectives together. So I just come back as that character,” Remini explain of her role as Vanessa.

When Colbert noted that fans liked seeing the former King of Queens co-stars together again, Remini replied, “I loved that. It's an amazing feeling.”

At the CBS TCAs earlier this month it was announced that James’ on-screen wife, who is played by Erinn Hayes, will be killed off from the show and Remini’s character will be made into a series regular.

When asked if this was the network’s way of rebooting King of Queens, programming executive Thom Sherman replied, "I don’t think so. The show speaks for itself and stands for itself. Obviously, the chemistry [between Kevin James and Leah Remini] was amazing in the stunt episodes.”
