As she prepares to leave the ABC series, the actress has urged its fan to "be kind" even when they aren't happy about her co-stars' storylines.

Leave Kelly McCreary alone!

That’s the message from Grey’s Anatomy star Sarah Drew, who has responded to viewers who aren’t happy about McCreary’s character, Maggie Pierce, dating Jackson -- the ex-husband of Drew’s character, April, on the ABC series.

Fans of the former TV couple, dubbed “Japril,” have voiced their disdain at Jackson (played by Jesse Williams) moving on from April with Maggie during the latest season of the hit primetime drama. However, Drew believes some have taken it so far, prompting her to speak out on social media on Tuesday.

“I need to say something to some of you. I say ‘some’ because I know that many of you are not participating in this,” Drew wrote in a note posted on Twitter. “Look, I know these characters mean so much to you -- believe me, they mean a lot to me too -- but I do not feel defended when you attack my friends. My beautiful, loving, loyal sister, Kelly, is a brilliant, fiercely talented team player, who ALWAYS shows up and dedicates herself to the stories she is asked to tell.”

“Please stop attacking her for doing her job,” Drew continued. “When you hurt her, you hurt me. When you show kindness to her, you show kindness to me. Please be kind.”

The anger shown by some fans has likely been amplified by news in March that the 37-year-old actress, along with co-star Jessica Capshaw, was exiting the medical drama -- a decision they were not involved in making, according to messages they posted after the news broke.

Further fueling the fire, a teaser for Thursday’s episode strongly suggested that April may be killed off.

Drew, who has been cast in the pilot for CBS' Cagney & Lacey reboot, previously opened up to ET about the “wonderful” work/life balance she felt working on the series, which she joined in season six.

“It’s such a great ensemble and there’s so many of us that I have episodes where I’m light, so I get tons of time with my kids, and then episodes where I’m heavier and don’t see them as much,” said Drew, who has two children with her husband, Peter Lanfer. “There’s a really wonderful work/life balance. I can see them a ton, but then also go and do the work that I love to do.”
