Say Hello to the Fisher Family

By

ETonline met up with the cast of NBC’s new sitcom, Growing Up Fisher, on their set resembling an Ikea, actually called 'Ikenberry' in the show, and a setting for a hilarious scene later in the season.  Watch the video above to see what’s in store for the zany, family comedy.

It’s not too often that a family is brought closer together during a divorce, but the Fisher family is unique to say the least.  Based on the life of the show’s creator and executive producer, DJ Nash (Up All Night, Bent), Growing Up Fisher tells the story of his childhood through the eyes of 11-year-old Henry Fisher (Eli Baker) whose parents, Mel and Joyce, are getting a divorce.  Actor Jason Bateman (Arrested Development, Horrible Bosses) lends his voice to narrate Henry’s inner thoughts and is one of the show’s producers.

Attorney Mel Fisher (J.K. Simmons) is cutting down trees, riding bikes with Henry, and giving driving lessons to his daughter, Katie (Ava Deluca-Verley), yet he’s actually blind, but that clearly doesn’t get in the way.  Joyce Fisher (Jenna Elfman) is the mother, except she acts like even more of a teenager than her 16-year-old daughter, Katie, which creates some humorous difficulties between the two.

When Mel moves into his own place after the divorce and gets a guide dog, a yellow lab named Elvis, Henry has to deal with the fact that his job, which is being his dad’s eyes, has been replaced.  Eventually, Henry and Katie both realize that their parents splitting up is the best thing that could happen and allows them to all be happy.

Growing Up Fisher debuts Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10:30 p.m. on NBC before moving to its regular time slot on Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m.

Will you tune in to see some of the show’s good-hearted humor?
