It was announced on Sunday that Disney star and recording artist Zendaya Coleman had dropped out of Lifetime's controversial TV biopic about the late R&B singer Aaliyah, and ET was on the red carpet at the 2014 BET Awards to talk to the actress/singer about her departure decision.

The 17-year-old - who walked the red carpet in a blue and black jacket and high-waisted mini-skirt – stopped to talk to ET special correspondent Tony Rock about her decision to leave Lifetime's TV movie.

"After actually starting the project, I feel like there were certain things that were missing," Zendaya said. "And things that weren't 100 percent taken care of. And I feel like, if I'm going to portray one of my idols, and someone I feel so important and strongly about, it has to be done right, and it has to be done 120 percent. So I just felt like it wasn't there, so it just wasn't a good choice for me."

Lifetime made the announcement of Zendaya's departure on Twitter on Sunday, and also said that the movie had stopped production and was on hold. It's unclear when – or if - production will begin again.

As for Zendaya, dropping out of the Aaliyah biopic won't be terribly detrimental. Her new Disney show, K.C. Confidential, in which Zendaya stars as a teenage undercover super spy/high school student, is going into production soon. Zendaya will also be co-producing the show.
