Slated to appear in multiple episodes of the upcoming season, Carter, 64, will first make her appearance in episode three.
The legendary actress’ casting on Supergirl comes less than a week after Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin was announced as Superman. The show has also employed several Superman alums, recruiting Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Helen Slater (Supergirl, Smallville) as Kara’s adoptive parents.
Earlier this month, Supergirl star Melissa Benoist spoke to ET about the show’s move from CBS to The CW and expressed excitement over the opportunities ahead.

“What I’m most excited about is we get to kind of linger a little more on certain storylines from the comic books that maybe we didn’t get to do last season,” she said. “Spread out storylines, which I’m really excited about.”
Supergirl premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
