Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
has entered the darkest timeline.

In a shocking series twist, last week’s episode ended with Daisy (Chloe Bennet) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) as the only remaining humans among their S.H.I.E.L.D. counterparts after a Life Model Decoy takeover. The two then entered Dr. Radcliffe’s Framework in order to save their fellow agents -- who have all been replaced by LMDs -- revealing an alternate reality that turns the S.H.I.E.L.D. ‘verse on its head.

Among other surprises, in the Framework’s skewed reality, Daisy is still dating Ward (Brett Dalton, who S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen recently confirmed is returning to the show), Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is a billionaire with a mystery woman on his arm, Simmons is dead, and May (Ming-Na Wen) is revealed to be HYDRA, riding an elevator in the still-standing Triskelion, which now bears the sinister organization’s symbol.

It’s HYDRA’s looming presence that appears to be carrying S.H.I.E.L.D. into its third “pod” of season four episodes. In ET’s exclusive look at the show’s new artwork, which declares, “Hail the New World Order,” the agents look like their normal selves -- save for the sinister HYDRA tentacle skull glowing green in the background. Yikes!

Bennet joined ET’s Leanne Aguilera for a Facebook Live chat back in January, where she teased that the final episodes of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fourth season are going to “blow people’s minds.”

“For the fans that have been watching from day one, you’re going to get a lot out of the back half of the season,” she hinted. “The third pod really is a mind bender… It’s going to throw people for a loop. It’s really insane. Everything that you know about the show gets turned upside down… It’s a really fun way to mix up the show.”
