Game of Thrones
star Kit Harington
says that fans of the hit HBO fantasy epic are in for something bigger and better than ever when season 7 premieres in four months.

Speaking with ABC News on Thursday, the 30-year-old series vet revealed that the new, "much grander" season has "so much more ambition" than any season before.

"There are less episodes this year, so they spent more money on those episodes," explained Harington, who stars as Jon Snow on the celebrated series. "So, the whole scale of it is up."

While every previous season has consisted of 10 episodes, this upcoming season will only contain seven.

Harington said the most important thing in his mind is that both seasons 7 and 8 go out "with a bang," and that the show goes "places TV hasn't been."

While he has high hopes for his beloved series, the actor admitted that, even after six years, he's still self-conscious about how his performances will be received by devoted GoT fans.

"I'm such a big cynic," Harington said. "I film a scene and [think] it's gonna be a terrible scene. Then when everyone loves it, I'm happy."

The release date of the new season -- July 16, 2017 -- was announced Thursday morning via Facebook Live in a stunt that involved fans typing "Fire" into the comments, which would activate a blowtorch that melted a block of ice containing the long-awaited date.

Despite some glitches -- which made the reveal last over an hour -- it sounds like an appropriately ambitious stunt to celebrate the fiery new season.
