That’s how Andy Cohen describes the new season of The Real Housewives of New York City, which returns to Bravo on April 5 at 9 p.m. ET. The trailer for season nine promises a lot of fun, but also a lot of politics.
“It is [the first time Housewives has gotten political],” Cohen tells ET. “The [2016 presidential] election goes through the first five episodes, five or six, because it’s what was happening at the beginning of the season, and these women are really politically active, some of them, and it was really something that was going on in their lives.”
Cohen, who executive produces the series, says the election seems to hit hardest with Carole Radziwill, Dorinda Medley and Ramona Singer.
“It was a big topic of conversation in New York City and all over the place,” he adds. “So, yeah, you will definitely see that come into play from the very first episode. It’s really cool.”
The new season also sees a new ‘Wife, socialite Tinsley Mortimer.
“People in New York City have known about Tinsley Mortimer for many years,” Cohen says. “She was one of the ‘it girls’ for many years, about 18 years ago I wanna say, or 15, something like that. She’s been through a lot since then, she’s rebuilding her life. She actually knows Sonja [Morgan] and Luann [D’Agostino], so, there’s a unique connection to the group, and it’s interesting to see how her relationships and her rebuilding goes, as well.”
“I just watched a scene in episode seven where Ramona, and Tinsley and Sonja go to Beautique to pick up guys,” he adds. “It’s so funny what happens.”
Yes, Cohen promises more antics from Singer, too.
“I will say, I just had a text exchange with a Housewife of New York who was… suggesting something,” he teases. “I can’t even, I can’t say what it was, because I’ll betray her trust. Let’s just say Ramona and I had some very interesting texts last week.”
ET caught up with Cohen to talk his partnership with Marie Callender’s and 10Below Ice Crew for Pi Day, March 14. The Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen host created a limited-edition treat pairing English Breakfast tea ice cream and Marie Callender’s newest pie flavor, chocolate chip cookie dough.
“I love pie,” Cohen confesses. “Any reason to celebrate pie is perfect for me. I love Pi Day, 3/14, it’s hilarious.”
“The snowstorm is coming on the East Coast, so it’s, like, the perfect day to sit around and eat pie all day, you know?” he says.
