"How many lies do we have to tell?"

In Tuesday's new episode of BET's Being Mary Jane, Gabrielle Union's titular character is worried that her steamy new romance with Justin (Michael Ealy) may be "starting off on the wrong foot."

The episode opens with Justin trying to convince MJ to keep their relationship secret (red flag!) from their co-workers at Great Day USA.

He also seduces her with a Mufasa quote from the Lion King.

When pressed for a "label," Justin crowns MJ with an official title.

"You really want me to say it? You’re my girl," he replies.

MJ also learns that she and Justin differ on important issues, such as diversity on GDU. But Justin's plan to play it "smart" backfires on MJ when the morning show hires a new co-anchor that she hates.

In more overwhelming proof that this relationship is headed for disaster, Justin encourages MJ to lie to her best friend, Kara (Lisa Vidal) about her breakup with Lee (Chiké Okonkwo).

"Don't lie, just delay the truth," he suggests. "People that lie tend to over-explain, let her come to her own conclusions."

MJ takes Justin's advice and shows up to Kara's house with a pretty detailed breakup story -- that she stole from her hairstylist. Kara knows MJ's lying, so she decides to "have a little fun," forcing her to explain why she dumped him.

"I'm out of his league," MJ says, cleverly keeping Justin’s name out of the conversation. "I'm lead anchor and I want someone who matches my hustle."

Since Kara refers to Justin as "the devil," it makes sense that MJ feels apprehensive about telling her the whole story.

In the end, Justin pulls off another sneaky plan that gets Kara her job back at GDU, but the celebration ends when Kara spots MJ snuggling up to Justin, and her cover is officially blown. Things can only go downhill from here.

Being Mary Jane airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on BET.
