Vanderpump Rules star Jax Taylor is now admitting that cheating on his fiancée, Brittany Cartwright, with Faith Stowers, a former server at Sur, lead to a vicious downward spiral -- and ultimately a wakeup call.
"I hit rock bottom not only with my relationship but with my friends," he recently admitted to ET's Lauren Zima during a joint interview with Cartwright. "I was like, 'I could go one way or the other.' And just for my father, I was like, 'Just, you know what, I'm going to do things the right way, I'm gonna turn a new leaf.' You know, everyone has heard it before. I'm gonna do this. I'm going to do this the right way. I'm going to do it for my future wife and for myself."
"I know I keep saying 'myself' but it is for her," he later added. "I believe mentally you need to take care of yourself first and I stand by that. Mentally you need to be OK with yourself in order to take care of your family."
Part of making things right for Taylor was proving to Cartwright's family, especially her father, that he intended to make big changes in his life in order to make their relationship work.
"I think that whenever it comes to my dad, [Taylor] just needs to reassure him," she told ET during the interview.
Taylor went on to explain how he arrived at his decision to clean up his act in order to build a better life for him and his future wife, whom he says played a pivotal role in helping him climb out of that dark chapter of his life.
"'This is not right, you're better than this,'" he explained of his mindset during his difficult period. "I was like, 'This has got to stop.' And then my father passed, and it was just one thing after another. It was tough. I was going to go one way or another. I'm going to be honest with you, I was either going to hit the bottle really hard, or I was going to be like, 'I'm going to put this aside.' Thank God she was there, or I would literally be in a ditch somewhere."
Cartwright added that she's ready to put her faith in him after seeing what he's gone through for her.
"I trust him for sure now," she said of Taylor, with whom she got engaged last June. "He's proven to me that he loves the heck out of me. I feel it, I know it. I know we're meant to be together."
During the chat, the couple also discussed the "chaotic" atmosphere of the upcoming Vanderpump Rules reunion, where everyone apparently decided to get honest with each other.
"I've seen some Housewives reunions and I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a reunion this bad. This was bad," Taylor explained. "The amount of times that [I thought] 'I don't know how they're going to edit it. I really want to talk to the editors about the amount of cussing and drama and the amount of times Andy [Cohen] had to say, 'Shut the f**k up.' It was going crazy. The amount of walkouts, crying, breaks."
The three-part Vanderpump Rules reunion kicks off on Monday, May 6, on Bravo.
