ET has learned that cops did a welfare check on Wendy Williams in January.

ET has learned that cops did a welfare check on Wendy Williams in January after a caller claimed that her now-estranged husband, Kevin Hunter, was poisoning her.

According to the police report obtained by ET, the welfare check occurred on Jan. 18 at Williams and Hunter's home in New Jersey after an officer received a call from a person who wished to remain anonymous, but stated that they worked for Williams' production company, and claimed that Hunter was poisoning his wife. Two officers paid a visit to Williams' home in response, and they were greeted by Hunter at the front door, who told them that Williams was sick and recovering from a health problem. According to police, Hunter was "hesitant" to let them speak with her, but they informed him they were required to speak with her after the call they received.

The report states that police eventually entered the home and found Williams in bed and covered in a blanket. One officer asked to speak to Hunter separately in the hallway, but Hunter said he didn't want to leave his wife's side. When asked how she was feeling, Williams told the officers that she was recovering from a broken shoulder, and police say that after they told her about the call that alleged she was being poisoned, her first response was, "Well, I'm very popular." She was asked again if there was any truth to the claim, and according to the report, she got tearful and responded by saying “No," claiming she was recovering from a health condition.

According to police, Hunter then told Williams that she didn't have to explain her health issue to the cops, and told police there had never been a domestic violence call to their home before. Before leaving, police once again asked Williams if she was OK, and she responded that she was.

ET has reached out to Williams' rep.

Last December, Williams told her audience during an episode of The Wendy Williams Show that she fractured her right shoulder, and was wearing a sling on her arm. Williams said at the time that she was "on the mend" and didn't need an operation, and did not reveal how the fracture occurred.

Williams filed for divorce from Hunter on April 11 after nearly 22 years of marriage. In docs obtained by ET, Williams cited "irreconcilable differences between the parties which have caused the breakdown of the marriage for a period of six months," and added that there is "no reasonable prospect of reconciliation."  A source close to Williams, 54, told ET that Hunter's alleged mistress, Sharina Hudson, recently giving birth to a baby was the last straw.

A source connected to The Wendy Williams Show also told ET last week that Hunter has since been fired from talk show after previously serving as an executive producer. According to the source, while Hunter has been fired, it is unclear if he will continue to act as Williams' manager and business partner.

Hunter broke his silence after Williams filed for divorce last Tuesday, and alluded to the alleged affair he had. Hunter and Williams share a 19-year-old son together, Kevin Hunter Jr.

"Twenty-eight years ago I met an amazing woman: Wendy Williams," the statement read. "At the time, I didn't realize that she would not only become my wife, but would also change the face of entertainment and the world. I have dedicated most of our lives to the business empire that is Wendy Williams Hunter, a person that I truly love and respect unconditionally."

"I am not proud of my recent actions and take full accountability and apologize to my wife, my family and her amazing fans," he continued. "I am going through a time of self-reflection and am trying to right some wrongs. No matter what the outcome is or what the future holds, we are still The Hunter Family and I will continue to work with and fully support my wife in this business and through any and all obstacles she may face living her new life of sobriety, while I also work on mine. I ask that you please give me and my family privacy as we heal. Thank you."
