This weekend, Christian Bale's Exodus: Gods and Kings finally dethroned Jennifer Lawrence's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 from the box office top spot after three weeks of dominance.
Exodus took home $24.5 million in its debut – nowhere near Mockingjay's $121.8 million – but still, impressive nonetheless. Now it's time to see which star comes out on top in our ET Celebrity Showdown.
Lawrence and Bale are two of the biggest names in Hollywood, and both have similar reputations for being versatile actors who can seamlessly transition between starring in big budget blockbusters or headlining small, independent dramas.
They starred together in the 2013 crime caper American Hustle, they have both won Oscars and despite their ages – Bale is 40 while Lawrence is 24 – they have both had acclaimed careers filled with explosive and celebrated performances. So who has the edge when it comes to this Celebrity Showdown?
As we've done in the past with comedians, leading ladies, method actors and handsome heroes, we're going to pit these versatile power players head to head and see whose career comes out strongest. You fought a good fight Mr. Bale, but for a career that began before Jennifer Lawrence was even born, she's already swinging hard and beating you in some very key categories. So, while this was a hard-fought, well-earned tie, keep in mind that your American Hustle wife is gunning for you in that cumulative box office gross category, and she still has another Hunger Games movie coming out. Keep up the amazing work, Miss Lawrence.
