2014 brought back some of our absolute favorite movie duos while new fictional pairs made their big-screen debuts.

Classic couples like Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker and Miss Piggy and Kermit reminded us why we fell in love with them in the first place. New romances like Hazel Grace and Augustus Waters shared in The Fault in Our Stars proved that falling in love can be the most magical and heartbreaking experience in the world.

We've compiled a list of our absolute favorite movie couples of the year. Check out the list below and watch the video above to see our beloved characters in action!

7. Kermit and Miss Piggy – Muppets Most Wanted

The cutest muppet duo starred in this year’s sequel to 2011’s The Muppets and their witty back-and-forth banter about marriage made us laugh, like always. Taking place in Europe, Constantine, a nearly-exact twin to Kermit and criminal mastermind extraordinaire, swaps places with our No. 1 green pal (against Kermit’s will, obviously) and even proposes to Piggy. Without giving too much away, Kermit always finds a way to save the day, doesn't he?

6. Jason and Ellie – That Awkward Moment

PHOTOS: 27 of the Most Important Shirtless Pics of Zac Efron

Zac Efron proved he’s as charming as ever in That Awkward Moment as Jason, a confused 20-something trying to balance falling in love with maintaining his independence. Despite Jason’s pact with his best guy friends to stay single, he falls hard for Ellie (Imogen Poots). Just as things start to get serious, Jason bails, choosing freedom and singlehood over commitment. In the end, our leading man realizes the error of his ways and makes a grand gesture in hopes of winning “the one” back. Yea, it’s adorable.

5. Schmidt and Jenko – 22 Jump Street

Okay, okay. So Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill don’t play romantic interests in the 21 Jump Street sequel, but their hilarious bromance earned them a spot on our list. This time around, Schmidt and Jenko go undercover as college students in an attempt to find the supplier of a dangerous drug called "WHYPHY." These fellas on spring break is, well, EVERYTHING.

4. Tris and Four – Divergent

Divergent
brought Beatrice Pryor and Four (real name Tobias Eaton) to life for millions of fans who fell in love with their characters reading the action-packed trilogy. The story takes places in a futuristic dystopian Chicago where society is divided into factions. When Tris’ aptitude test attributes her into several factions, she’s told to keep the results a secret. During training sessions with her faction of choice, Dauntless, she falls for her instructor, Four – who ends up having a lot more in common with her than she expected. The sequel to the flick,Insurgent, is set for release on March 20, 2015.

3. Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

This pair is a fan favorite in the comic world – and the fact that Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield are dating in real life just makes them that much more fun to watch. Peter, aka Spider-Man, wants to keep Gwen safe by leaving her out of his crime-fighting ways. After deciding to just be friends, Gwen receives a scholarship to Oxford causing Peter to profess his love to her. Unfortunately, the love-filled reunion is cut short by Electro’s villainous ways. In the end, despite his best efforts, Spidey is unable to keep Gwen safe from his tangled web of enemies like he hoped.

2. Katniss and Gale – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

The Hunger Games
has given fans one of the most debated and talked about love triangles ever. Should Katniss be with Gale or Peeta? We don’t want to spoil the ending of the series – and if you asked us which couple we preferred in last year’s film adaptation of Catching Fire we would have said Peeta and Katniss. In this installment though, we’re going with Katniss and Gale.

The Capitol and the Districts are at war and Katniss is right in the middle. Peeta has been captured by President Snow, causing Katniss to constantly worry for his well-being. By her side the whole time? Her best friend turned romantic interest, Gale Hawthorne. Two moments stand out to us. The first is when Katniss and Gale visit District 12 – and he reminisces about their first kiss. The twosome share another kiss, causing Gale to note that she only kissed him because he’s in pain. The second moment is the way Gale leads the charge to rescue Peeta for Katniss, knowing that her heart might belong to Peeta and not him. Oh, and there was that rumor Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth were dating in real life.

1. Hazel Grace and Gus – The Fault In Our Stars

Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters indisputably deserve the No. 1 spot on our list.

“Okay?” Okay.”

The film adaptation of the novel of the same name brought these lovable characters to life and subsequently brought audiences across the world to tears. Augustus and Hazel Grace’s relationship made us remember that love is always stronger than death and that sometimes… we just need to be thankful for the “little infinities” life does give us.
