Robin Roberts On Josh Elliott Leaving and Michael Strahan Joining 'GMA'

Robin Roberts says she's "beyond sad" that Josh Elliott is leaving, but happy that he has found his dream job.

On Wednesday, April 3, Robin Roberts spoke to ET at the SeriousFun Children's Network Gala and the Good Morning America anchor opened up about her former GMA co-anchor Josh Elliott leaving the show for NBC Sports.

"I had serious fun with Josh Elliott. He's multi-talented, multi-faceted, but we all know of course he is a sports guy," said Roberts. "I'm going to miss talking to him on the show and anybody that watched the program would see how he would just light up. I think what he said today in his statement is this is a dream job. I am beyond sad that he's leaving us but I was [there] when Diane Sawyer, when Charlie Gibson, when Chris Cuomo, when Sam Champion [left] and we all remain very good friends. I'm so proud of him and happy for him that he's pursuing his heart."

Roberts also confirmed that Elliott will not be returning to GMA, and that the show will be airing a "best of" video segment.

"We have known things but the audience, it's new to them," said Roberts. "They see him on Friday and then he's not there on Monday so of course we want fans and him to be able to say his goodbyes so we're going to have something taped to show the greatest moments of Josh."

Roberts also commented on the possible hiring of Live! with Kelly and Michael co-host Michael Strahan saying, "That's something that has been in the works. When he came in when I was on hiatus…for six months he came in a few times and we fell in love with him. I have had the pleasure of filling in for Kelly Ripa and sitting next to him. He is great and [I'm] so excited about the addition of [Strahan]."
