Helen Mirren Backs Maggie Gyllenhaal's Hollywood Ageism Claim: 'F**king Outrageous'

When Helen Mirren speaks, you listen, because she's hands down the most amazing woman in Hollywood.

If she thinks something is "f**king outrageous," it might be time to start paying more attention. In this case, The Queen star is railing against Hollywood’s ageism problem.

Mirren was recently asked about comments made by 37-year-old actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, who claimed that she was recently told she was "too old to play the lover of a man who was 55."

"F**king outrageous! It's ridiculous," Mirren said while speaking at The Wrap's Power Woman Breakfast in New York City on Tuesday. "Honestly, so annoying. So annoying and 'twas ever thus."

"We all sat there watching James Bond, as James Bond got more and more geriatric, while his girlfriend's got younger and younger," the 69-year-old Oscar winner added as she was cheered on by the crowd. "It's so annoying."

Mirren has proven time and again to be a groundbreaking powerhouse, both on and off the screen, who has worked hard to never let her age dictate what roles she pursues. Recently, Mirren opened up to ET about wanting to join the Fast & Furious franchise.
