Here’s some casting news that has us shivering with antici...pation.
Laverne Cox has been cast in Fox’s small screen reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The Orange Is the New Black actress will play Frank-N-Furter, the self-proclaimed “sweet transvestite from Transsexual, Transylvania” that Tim Curry made iconic in the 1975 film.
Cox shared the news on Twitter, tweeting she was “so honored to be a part of the Rocky Horror legacy.” The two-hour special event will be a “reimagining” of the cult classic, ET previously learned, directed by Kenny Ortega (High School Musical) and produced by original Rocky Horror producer, Lou Adler.
Well, dammit Janet, this news has us inspired! So we cast the rest of the roles:
Eva Amurri Martino as Janet Weiss (Made Famous by Susan Sarandon)
It may be a bit on the nose, but we’d love to see Sarandon’s daughter inherit the part. Plus, Eva is the same age now that her mom was when she donned Janet’s infamous cardigan.
Timothy Simons as Brad Majors (Made Famous by Barry Bostwick)
If you’re not familiar with Simons’s work, go back and watch seasons one through four of Veep. He is hilarious, for one, and could certainly capture Brad’s brand of vanilla awkwardness.
Neil Patrick Harris as Riff Raff (Made Famous by Richard O'Brien)
After his Tony-winning turn on Broadway in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, we’re dying to see NPH lose himself in another musical role. Why not take a creepy turn as everyone’s favorite handyman? Could you imagine how much scenery would be chewed when he and Cox were in scenes together?!
Gina Rodriguez as Magenta (Made Famous by Patricia Quinn)
We’re so used to seeing the Golden Globe winner as the good girl, both on Jane the Virgin and IRL. We want to see her step outside her comfort zone and be a little bad.
Emma Roberts as Columbia (Made Famous by Little Nell Campbell)
Quite the opposite, Roberts has more than proven that she can play the mean girl on Scream Queens and American Horror Story, now we want to see her go full-on bonkers with it.
Matt Bomer as Rocky Horror (Made Famous by Peter Hinwood)
We’re double dipping in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story pool, but it seems appropriate, doesn't it? Especially because we suspect Bomer might actually be the perfect specimen of a man created in a lab somewhere. Plus, we never got to see him don a gold speedo in either Magic Mike movie. It’s time.
Watch Curry make a rare appearance to accept a lifetime achievement award:
