Bette Midler Reveals the Real Reason the 'Hocus Pocus' Sequel Is 'Delayed'

Walt Disney Pictures

“Wench! Trollop! You buck-toothed, mop-riding, firefly from hell!”

That’s basically how we feel about Disney right now, seeing as it’s once again that time of year when we tune in for our annual viewing of Hocus Pocus, yet we still have not heard any new news about a long-desired sequel.

Now, Winifred Sanderson herself, Bette Midler, has an update on why:

So the fact that Disney is “having trouble finding a virgin” is -- probably? -- a joke, but we love that the actress has this much enthusiasm about returning to the role.

Earlier this year, Midler was asked about a sequel to the 1993 cult classic and wrote, “You have to go to send in your cards to the Walt Disney company. The ball's in their court…Inundate the Disney company, because I have canvassed the girls and they are wiling to do it, but we have no say in it, so if you want a HOCUS POCUS 2, ask the Walt Disney company...SISTAHS!”

Her costar and fellow Sanderson sister, Kathy Najimy, replied and looped in famed composer Marc Shaiman, who arranged Midler’s rendition of “I Put a Spell on You.”

Midler facilitated a mini Hocus Pocus revival during her summer tour, Her Divine Intervention, red wig and all, but it only made us want the real thing that much more.

In summary: Another glorious morning where there’s an impending The Craft remake, but no Hocus Pocus 2. Makes us sick!
