Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake's relationship may be long over, but the legacy of their matching denim outfits lives on, shining brighter than ever!
January 8, 2016, marks the 15-year anniversary of the "Oops...I Did It Again" and "Bye Bye Bye" singers -- JT was still in *NSYNC at this point! -- wearing a patchwork denim dress and jean suit to the 2001 American Music Awards.
Over a decade later, here's how that denim ensemble changed the world:
Months after calling off her engagement to Liam Hemsworth, Miley Cyrus revealed what she was looking for in a man. "I want a boyfriend that will wear jean on jean on jean with me," Britney’s future "SMS (Bangerz)" collaborator wistfully tweeted.
Katy Perry hit the red carpet at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards in, what she calls, her "best impression" of Britney's iconic look. The dress is on point, but that date though?
For the record, Britney thought the tribute was "amazing." "Just when I thought the denim dress had retired....you bring it back!" @britneyspears replied to @katyperry.
Just last year, Ryan Reynolds -- for some reason? We're still not quite sure? -- Photoshopped himself and wife Blake Lively into a matching jean meme. "The night started exactly as planned. But I take full responsibility for the denim condom," he tweeted. "It was a mistake."
Most recently, Britney herself reminisced about the outfit when she reblogged this Instagram photo of two toddlers wearing matching threads:
Here's to another 15 years, denim ensemble! Long live the jean dress!
