EXCLUSIVE: Nick Jonas Opens Up About Demi Lovato's Breakup, Upcoming Tour: 'It's Probably the Best Timing For

The 'Last Year Was Complicated' singer spoke with ET and addressed the high-profile split, sharing, 'I'm here for her.'

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama may have called it quits earlier this month, but according to the "Confident" singer's friend and tour mate, Nick Jonas, everyone's going to be just fine.

Jonas spoke with ET at the Altec Lansing Collaboration Launch Event at Up & Down nightclub in New York City on Wednesday, and the 23-year-old singer opened up about Lovato's split from the Grey's Anatomy actor after six years of dating.

"I've built an amazing friendship with Wilmer over the years and I have so much love for him," said Jonas. "Demi is one of my closest friends in the world so I'm here for her, and for both of them really."

Lovato, 23, and Valderrama, 36, announced their split in a joint statement posted to Instagram on June 3, writing, “After almost 6 loving and wonderful years together, we have decided to end our relationship. This was an incredibly difficult decision for both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends."

Jonas and Lovato are currently preparing to kick off their Future Now Tour, which they will co-headline, and the "Chains" singer explained that it might be a good thing for his friend and tour-mate to have the distraction of a busy schedule. "It's probably the best timing for everybody," Jonas explained.

Opening up about the Future Now Tour, Jonas said he's "just thrilled" to be able to go on tour with his longtime friend, and revealed, "the biggest thing is about having a good time."

"I just put my album [Last Year Was Complicated] out and I'm having fun seeing the reaction to that," Jonas said. "So fun is key."

"I actually think that gets lost on people you know?" he added. "They get out on the road and they start losing sight of how great it is every night to be able to walk out on that stage and have 25-30,000 people singing back the words to your songs to you."

As for his "must haves" on tour, Jonas said he really wants to have "lots of water" to stay hydrated, and a lot of "good people."

"I know that's a weird thing to say, but I like to keep good people around," he explained. "[Which is] probably why me and Demi decided to go on tour together -- because she's good people."

While Jonas made it clear in his newest album title -- Last Year Was Complicated -- that he's gone down a rough road recently, he said that 2016 is a completely different story.

"This year's been pretty good so far," Jonas beamed. "I'm on track to have one of my biggest debuts as a solo artist ever, and I'm happy with what I released. I'm proud of my work."
