LL Cool J finds himself on the other end of the pointed guns on tonight's new episode of NCIS: LA. Meanwhile, his partner Chris O'Donnell finds himself on the other side of the camera. ET was on the set of as O'Donnell directed their "most intense episode" yet.
"Sam is arrested for murder," LL says about his character. "He is the subject of a full investigation by many different parties and there's DNA evidence that links Sam to these murders.
"This is probably one of the most intense episodes we've filmed."
While O'Donnell tries to clear his partner's name in the episode, he's also calling the shots as the director.
"[It's] kind of like my own personal film school here," O'Donnell says. "It is really amazing the fact that we do basically half a movie in eight days."
This is the actor's second time directing for the CBS drama. It's an experience he says that will influence a possible future directing films.
"I think it's going to be such a valuable learning process for when someday I want to get out and make my own films," he says.
As for his co-stars, Daniela Ruah told ET last week that they love working with O'Donnell as a director.
"He gives great notes and obviously he knows the show better than anybody," she said.
