EXCLUSIVE: Evan Rachel Wood on Wearing a Suit to the Golden Globes: 'Dresses Aren't a Requirement'

The 'Westworld' star is ditching the dresses all awards season long as a reminder to young women.

Evan Rachel Wood is reminding us all that dresses are not a requirement for red carpet fashion.

The Westworld star, who's nominated for Best Actress in a Drama Series, opened up to ET's Nancy O'Dell on Sunday about her choice to wear an Altuzarra suit for her sixth Golden Globes appearance.

"I actually decided this year that I wasn't gonna wear any dresses to any of the award shows," the 29-year-old actress shared. "This is my sixth time to the Golden Globes, and my third nomination. I've worn a dress every time, and I just wanted to be a gentle reminder for young women, dresses are great, I'm not protesting them or anything, but they aren't a requirement."

"If you don't wanna wear a dress, you don't have to," she explained. "Your worth is more than that. So just be yourself. It felt important to do that this year."

Oh and another benefit? No train-tripping!

"No one is stepping on my train," Wood laughed. "It's an amazing change."

Wood also explained that she took part in designing the black-and-white fashion, which was inspired by late Hollywood actress Marlene Dietrich.

"This took two fittings, I sent a lot of reference photos, Altuzarra designed this with me," she shared. "Ever since I saw Marlene Dietrich in that suit, I've always wanted to do an homage to that."

Of course, the suit is ALSO fitting given that Wood's Westworld character, Dolores, spends a fair amount of time kicking a** in cowboy slacks.

Already having won a Critics' Choice Award for the role, Wood admitted that the acclaimed HBO series has taken on special meaning for her.

"It feels wonderful. I've never been more proud to be a part of any project," she raved. "And I haven't worked harder on any project. It feels really good."
