Fat Possum
L.A. collective Odd Future (OFWGKTA) has many subgroups within their camp, notably Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean, but Mellowhype (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain) are showing that they can stand on their own with their latest album, Blackenedwhite. Opposite of the group's dark, edgy content, Hodgy, the rapping-half of the twosome, comes off as a care-free stoner who's enthralled with women and religion (yes, really) while Left Brain provides production that can rival those of today's hip hop elite. Although most aren't too familiar with the duo within the steadily ascending teenage hip hop crew, an album like this can put them on the radar.

Incubus - If Not Now, When? (7/12/11)

Epic
Incubus comes back with their seventh studio album, If Not Now, When?, a title tailor made for their latest effort given the lengthy hiatus between this and their last album Light Grenades (2006). While the group admittedly used that time to focus on more personal endeavors, like guitarist Michael Einziger taking college courses or drummer Jose Pasillas becoming a father, they've seemingly taken the path most bands embark on when growing within this business. This album does take a noticeable turn into a more "mature" direction, but they still have plenty of mileage to show fans their range hasn't completely left.

Pictureplane - Thee Physical (7/19/11)

ATO Records
