New on Blu-ray & DVD: January 31

The Story: The countdown to the Oscars is on, and now some of your all-time favorite Best Picture winners are available on Blu-ray, all on one disc: Shakespeare in Love, The English Patient, Chicago, No Country for Old Men and Crash!

The Story: Spike Lee's stirring biopic starring Denzel Washington is finally on Blu-ray, digitally remastered just in time for Black History Month. Washington was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of the controversial, martyred African-American leader. Spike Lee also stars opposite Angela Bassett, Delroy Lindo, Albert Hall and Kate Vernon.


Notable Special Features: A collectible 40-page book contains rare images, cast biographies, production notes and more; plus hours of special features.

The Story: Star Trek: The Next Generation is finally coming to Blu-ray in time for its 25th anniversary! All 178 episodes from seven seasons are on their way later this year, but until they arrive, Paramount is giving fans a taste of things to come with this sampler disc containing the classic episodes Encounter at Farpoint, The Inner Light and Sins of the Father. Based on the timeless, Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee, Peck plays Atticus Finch, a white, Depression-era Southern lawyer who defends a black man against a rape charge while teaching his children about principles, strength and conviction. The film was nominated for 8 Academy Awards, and earned Peck a Best Actor Oscar.

The Story: Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Grace Moretz star in this haunting thriller inspired by a true story. Since the seventies, over 60 bodies have been found in the bayous outside a small Texas town, dubbed The Killing Fields; a local homicide detective (Worthington) and a transplanted New York City cop (Morgan) team up to investigate the crimes and catch the sadistic serial killer… The film is produced by Michael Mann.

The Story: Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried are running out of time in their futuristic, action-packed thriller set in a world where time is currency. As the population stops aging at 25 years old, one and all must pay to buy more time, so while the rich get richer -- and stay young -- the poor have to beg, borrow and steal in order to survive. Olivia Wilde, Alex Pettyfer and Johnny Galecki also star in this intense thrill ride.

The Story: The brand-new prequel to director John Carpenter's classic 1982 creepfest has plenty of scares and incredible effects to spare. Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a young paleontologist flown to a remote station in Antarctica to help investigate a downed alien spacecraft -- and finds herself fighting for her life against its deadly, shape-shifting occupant. Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen and Eric Christian Olsen also star.

The Story: Real-life partners Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz demonstrate their onscreen chemistry as a couple that finds a dream home for their family in a quaint New England town, only to learn that grisly murders were committed against the former residents of the house -- and they may be the killer's next target. Also starring Naomi Watts and Elias Koteas, the film is directed by Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, My Left Foot).

The Story: Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black watch the birdies while pursuing their own bucket list in this lighthearted comedy from David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada, Marley & Me). The three play friendly rivals -- and avid birdwatchers -- at various crossroads in their lives decide to ditch their responsibilities and dedicate a year to following their dreams on a cross-country adventure. Jim Parsons, Joel McHale, Rashida Jones, Anjelica Huston, Dianne Wiest, Brian Dennehy, JoBeth Williams and Kevin Pollak also star.
