Super music producers The Neptunes had sent the track to the late Michael Jackson first, but he passed on the song along with a number of other hits on J.T.'s first solo record.

This instance isn't the only time a singer has passed up on a pop song that later become a chart topper. From Britney Spears to Kelly Clarkson, see what other familiar tracks were meant for someone else.

'Rock Your Body'

'Don't Cha'

'How Will I Know'

'Disturbia'

Chris Brown co-penned Disturbia, but decided to pass it along to his then girlfriend Rihanna who turned it into a No. 1 hit.

'Telephone'

Lady Gaga reportedly wrote Telephone for Britney Spears' album Circus. In 2010, an alleged rough cut of Spears singing the song was leaked, but that's the closest we've ever gotten to hearing Spears' rendition.
