Go Inside 'Hemlock Grove' - EXCLUSIVE

By Jarett Wieselman

Hot on the heels of their wildly successful House of Cards comes Hemlock Grove, the latest Netflix series designed to deplete workplace productivity as you'll spend hours minimizing viewing windows any time your boss walks by.

The 13 episode Eli Roth produced thriller takes place in Hemlock Grove, a former Pennsylvania steel town rocked by the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl. But all is not what it seems in this small burg, that is also populated with supernatural creatures. Something that initially gave star Bill Skarsgard (Alex's younger brother) pause.

"My agent gave this vampire/werewolf script to me and I was like, 'Come on! Everyone knows my brother is on True Blood,'" Bill laughs to ETonline. "But then I read it, and was in awe. Every script is so mysterious and weird and cool and edgy. I needed to be a part of this show."

Hemlock Grove
co-stars Famke Janssen, Dougray Scott and Landon Liboiron (pictured), who was also intrigued by the show's supernatural citizens. But he's quick to add, "I think what makes a successful supernatural show is not questioning the supernatural elements, but questioning the morality of the situation."

"What makes our show so successful is that it's all about what's right and wrong," he tells ETonline. "It constantly questions the morality of every situation and looks at how human these creatures are because of their choices."

And for the squeamish who link producer Eli Roth with the torture porn craze, Libiron says, "Our objective isn't to gross people out with gore. Blood is used because of the incredible circumstances these people live in. We're making a drama about people and the genre elements simply enhance the dark, harsh drama they're enduring."

Bill plays Roman Godfrey, whose wealthy family (Jansen plays his mother, Olivia) is equally influential and mysterious, while Landon stars as Peter Rumancek, a gypsy that comes to Hemlock Grove at the worst possible time.

"There's a gruesome murder when Peter arrives, and he's pinpointed by everyone as a suspect," Landon tells me. Roman becomes Peter's salvation as the two instantly develop a deep bond.

"The best thing I can liken it to is love at first sight," Bill says. "Not that their relationship is sexual in any way, but it's impossible to explain why people fall in love -- these two guys just see each other and have an immediate connection neither can explain." Landon adds, "And in trying to solve this murder, they discover a lot about their connection, this town and themselves."
