New Movies on DVD & Blu-ray: March 10

More than a decade after its theatrical release, 'Primal Fear' is back with a special "Hard Evidence Edition" on DVD and Blu-ray. The film marked the auspicious film debut of Edward Norton in a story about an altar boy accused of brutally murdering Chicago's archbishop -- and the defense attorney (Richard Gere) who takes on his case pro bono, battling former flame Laura Linney's tough prosecuting attorney, who is looking to make her watershed case in the courtroom.

The deluxe "Hard Evidence Edition" DVD/Blu-ray includes special features such as new interviews with Norton, Linney and director Greg Hoblit (including the search for an actor to play Aaron after Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role), the featurettes "Psychology of Guilt" (examining the insanity plea in real-life murder cases), filmmaker commentary and more.

Walt Disney's animated classic makes its highly anticipated Blu-ray debut, brilliantly restored with enhanced picture and sound and available for the first time in high-definition and 2-Disc DVD. Disney's second animated feature won an Academy Award for the original song "When You Wish upon a Star" and introduced the beloved character of Jiminy Cricket. Of course, the classic fairytale follows the adventures of Geppetto's curious puppet, who yearns to one day be a real boy.

Insightful special features include recently uncovered plans for an alternate ending, deleted scenes and songs, "No Strings Attached: The Making of Pinocchio," art galleries, audio commentary, live-action reference footage, "The Sweat Box" (tracing the history of Walt Disney's artistic process with his creative teams), a sing-along-song with lyrics option, Pinocchio fun facts, a puzzle game and more!

The vampire genre gets an infusion of fresh blood with this haunting Swedish film set in a working class suburb of Stockholm. The story follows a 12-year-old boy who befriends his next-door neighbor, a young girl who just happens to be a 200-year-old vampire child responsible for a series of murders around town.

Special features include deleted scenes, theatrical poster gallery, behind-the-scenes featurettes and more.

David Thewlis and Vera Farmiga star in this stirring adaptation of the John Boyne novel chronicling the forbidden friendship between a young German boy and a Jewish child in a concentration camp during World War II. The son of a high-ranking Nazi commandant, the German boy soon comes to realize why his newfound friend must remain behind a barbed-wire fence, while his parents' marriage threatens to collapse under the pressure of the obvious ethical dilemma.

Special features include filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes with optional commentary, and the behind-the-scenes featurette "Friendship Beyond the Fence."

Award-winning Brit director Mike Leigh's newest quirky character dramedy earned Sally Hawkins ('Cassandra's Dream,' 'Vera Drake') a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and an Oscar nom for Best Original Screenplay. Hawkins plays Poppy, an irrepressibly optimistic and free-spirited teacher whose infectious laugh and unshakably positive outlook affects everyone around her -- including Scott (Eddie Marsan), a driving instructor with road rage issues who must teach Poppy to drive after her bike is stolen.

From the creative mind of the Oscar-winning writer of 'Adaptation' and 'Being John Malkovich,' Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut stars Phillip Seymour Hoffman as a regional theater director who builds a full-scale replica of New York City inside a giant warehouse for a massive theater piece. Taking years to perfect his masterwork, he all the while struggles with his romantic relationships (including Samantha Morton, Michelle Williams and Catherine Keener) and a mysteriously degenerative medical condition. Special features include screen animations and the behind-the-scenes featurettes "In and Around Synecdoche, NY: The Making of Synecdoche, NY," "The Story of Caden Cotard: In Conversation with Phillip Seymour Hoffman," "Infectious Diseases in Cattle: Bloggers Roundtable" and "NFTS/Script Factory Masterclass with Charlie Kaufman."

Actor-turned-director Stuart Townsend's docudrama chronicles the true-life turbulence that occurred when demonstrators against the World Trade Organization clashed with the government and the National Guard on the streets of Seattle for five days in 1999. The film features an all-star cast that includes Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Ray Liotta, Andre Benjamin, Connie Nielsen, Joshua Jackson, Channing Tatum and Michelle Rodriguez.

Jason Statham returns to his high-octane franchise for more thrills and kills. This time, skilled driver Frank Martin must transport the feisty daughter of a Ukranian government official from Marseilles to Odessa and the Black Sea -- all the while dodging bullets and projectiles and his cargo's growing affections.

Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott team up with 'Superbad' McLovin star Christopher Mintz-Plasse for this outrageous comedy about a pair of energy drink salesmen who are "sentenced" to perform community service in a "big brother" mentor program or face jail time. Trying their best just to unemotionally log their hours and get out of their obligation as soon as possible, the slacker pair soon learn to appreciate what their young misfits have to offer -- while showing them a few slick tricks of the trade in the process.

Special features include bloopers, filmmaker commentary, "In Character & Off Script" and the featurette "On the set of Role Models."

In a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination, Anne Hathaway shines as a young woman who returns home for the wedding of her sister, bringing with her a long history of personal crisis, family conflict and tragedy. Directed by Jonathan Demme, the film also stars Debra Winger, Rosemarie DeWitt, Mather Zickel, Bill Irwin and Anna Deavere Smith.

Nominated for eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor Oscar winner Sean Penn plays Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be voted into public office in America. Milk was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977, and the film charts the last eight years of the politician's colorful life after he relocated to the Castro neighborhood and became personally involved with the fight against injustice. Armed with tenacity and a solid group of friends and supporters behind him, the larger-than-life Milk fought for equal rights until he was tragically gunned down along with the mayor of San Francisco by fellow supervisor Dan White. Also starring James Franco, Emile Hirsch and Josh Brolin.

The story of Chess Records and its many legendary recording artists gets the big-screen treatment. The turbulent story of sex, violence, race and rock and roll in 1950s and '60s Chicago features Oscar winner Adrien Brody as Leonard Chess, Cedric The Entertainer as Willie Dixon, 'Quantum of Solace' and 'W.' star Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, rapper/actor Mos Def as Chuck Berry and Beyonce as iconic "At Last" crooner Etta James.
