The stars of ‘Family Matters’ opened up to ET about how the hit sitcom’s success is owed to how they reflected real-life families. Jaleel White revealed the backstory of the Steve Urkel phenomenon, and said the show always tried to express how special it is to ‘have someone in your life who really loves you.’ The TV series ran for nine seasons from 1989-1998, and Reginald VelJohnson said he’s proud of how it gave representation to ‘the way blue collar families think and live.’ Kellie Shanygne Williams said audiences could relate to their show, because there’s so many families with ‘a whole lot of people living in one house!’
