Met Gala 2019: All of the Campiest Outfits, Biggest Entrances and Most Memorable Red Carpet Moments

See how Lady Gaga, Cardi B and more interpret "Camp: Notes on Fashion."

Will you be our plus one to this year's Met Gala?

The first Monday in May is here, and we want you by our side to relive every moment of what was, hands down, the campiest red carpet event of the year, as the stars -- including Lady Gaga, Cardi B, Serena Williams and Priyanka Chopra Jonas -- arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in their chicest, most glamorous, most over-the-top outrageous interpretations of "Camp: Notes on Fashion."

Below, our minute-by-minute dispatches from the 2019 Met Gala:

So, Who Was This Year's Queen of the Met?

If a Met Gala happens and Rihanna isn't in attendance, did the Met Gala ever really happen at all? The pink carpet officially closed without a surprise RiRi appearance, which is criminal -- for camp, of all the years she had to miss! -- and the Met Gala should have been canceled when she didn't RSVP. Anyway, that means the title of Queen of the Met is officially up for grabs. So, who should be crowned? Gaga? Cardi? Kacey? Zendaya?

Lizzo Is 100% That B***h at the Met

The songstress, twerker and flutist made her Met Gala debut and looked "Good as Hell," arriving with Kate Moss, Rita Ora and designer Marc Jacobs. She wore a pink-and-white ensemble that featured plenty of feathers, sheer paneling and, of course, a matching bright pink wig. Social media, meanwhile, was left gagging, comparing Lizzo's look to everything from "a Flamingo Queen" to "a Hot Strawberry Shortcake" to a "Peppermint Candy Snack." — DM

Zendaya Is the Actual Belle of the Ball

OK, we are SO in love with this look! From her gown to her choker to her chic blonde updo, the actress channeled Disney's Cinderella perfectly. Even her handbag was on point: Z carried a purse that was bedazzled to look like the carriage from the animated film. We can thank her fairy Godfather (aka stylist Law Roach) for this epic outfit. — DM

Ezra Miller Brings the Nightmares

The eccentric and wonderfully eclectic actor can always be counted on to bring his A-game. For this Met Gala, however, it seems like he heard the theme was "camp" and somehow thought that meant "skin-crawling surrealist horror." If that was his intention, you can't deny he nailed it.

Miller, decked out in a bejeweled, pinstripe suit and Bette Davis-esque wig, covered his face in beautifully painted and deeply unsettling eyes, and the creepiness factor was only elevated by the disturbing human-face mask he carried in his hand with delicate grace. — ZS

Nicki Minaj Goes Full "Barbie Dreams" Chic

Nicki the Barbie is here. The rapper opted for head-to-toe powder pink, styling her mini dress with ribbon stilettos that laced all the way up to her knees. She topped off the look with cotton candy pink hair, pulled back into a tight ponytail. Surprisingly, her ensemble was a bit underwhelming for us. We were expecting a more outrageous look from the usually over-the-top dressed star. — DM

Cardi B Is More Than Just Okurrr in Another Perfect Met Look

The rapper certainly didn't hold back, stepping out in a crimson dress that featured feathers and a massive train that had to be held up by an entire team of male assistants as she made her way up the famous Met stairs. Cardi's team cleared the entire stairway to give her a moment to really show off the gown, which she paired with a bedazzled cap and sexy cherry lip. — DM

Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez Have a New York Minute

Almost two months after getting engaged, J.Lo and A.Rod made their triumphant return to the Met Gala, where the diva stunned in a silver fringe gown with matching silver, glittery wig that made her look like a flapper from the roaring '20s.

"It's very exciting. And right down the street from Yankee Stadium!" the former New York Yankee, who donned a blush pink tux, told ET of returning to the gala with his bride-to-be. "We're so lucky to be a part of this night." — ZS

Cara Delevingne is a Rainbow Warrior Woman

Delevingne looked fierce and prismatic in a bold, sheer mini-dress, covered in bright, multi-colored stripes that continued down her legs. The actress, who wore silver, glittery undergarments beneath the see-through top, incorporated colored stripes in her make-up choices as well, with a thick, bold line of orange that ran across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose like a futuristic warrior woman.

Honestly, her trippy, next-century Met Gala look wouldn't have been remotely out of place in her sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets -- or a Barbarella remake. — ZS

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas Make First Red Carpet Appearance as Newlyweds

Marriage looks good on these two. After secretly tying the knot in Las Vegas last week, Turner and Jonas made their first red carpet appearance as newlyweds at the Met. The lovebirds wore coordinating ensembles, featuring black, red, blue and green sequins, arriving just a few moments after Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra. — DM

Kim and Kanye's Camp Is Surprisingly Low-Key

Considering how wild Kim has gone with some of her red carpet fashions, you'd think she'd embrace this year's "camp" theme to blow everyone away with something truly wild and unexpected.

However, Kim decided to go the opposite route, rocking a low-cut, body-hugging copper dress with a (shockingly!) sinched waist that showed off her insane hips. Kanye, meanwhile, apparently found out he was going to the Met Gala on the way over and said, "Eh, this Dickies jacket and matching pants are fine. I'll fit right in." — ZS

RuPaul Proves Why He's the King of Camp

"This is right up my alley," a de-dragged RuPaul exclaimed while speaking to ET. The Drag Race host gave his fellow attendees a lesson in camp, showing off a perfect interpretation of the theme in a sequined and striped blazer paired with a black bow tie. Can you believe this is his only his FIRST time attending?

As for any Drag Race spoilers Ru was willing to let slip, he only laughed. "Every year we have Drag Race and there's one winner: Me!" — DM

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas Return to the Met Gala as a Married Couple

Back in 2017, everyone was wondering if these two were a real-life couple after they mysteriously posed together on the Met Gala red carpet, both in Ralph Lauren. Flash forward to this year's ball, and the lovebirds are officially married and serving on the committee.

Mrs. Jonas wowed in a cape and gown, paired with a massive crown and dramatic, theatrical makeup that looked like something out of a Tim Burton movie. Her husband complemented her look perfectly, wearing a classic white suit with a pinch of silver glitter, silver earrings and light eyeliner. — DM

The sisters dressed to impress Monday night, both wowing in their own ways. Halsey Is the Disney Princess of Our Dreams

The songstress and famed wig enthusiast donned long locks and a satiny red, midriff-baring ensemble that she paired with gold earrings, arm guards and bangles. The whole number looked almost uncannily like Princess Jasmine's red ensemble from Aladdin. "I feel like Wonder Woman," she told ET, revealing her ensemble includes pockets for her cell phone. "Because I can't stay off of Twitter." — ZS

Katy Perry Ditches Fireworks, Lights Up as a Chandelier Instead

Now THIS is Camp. Take notes, people.

Leave it up to Perry to go all out for the night, showing up to the gala as a walking chandelier. Designer Jeremy Scott teased the look over the weekend, telling Page Six, "Frankly, there probably isn’t a performer in pop history that’s used camp and humor more than she has. I have guesses at what people expect from us, but I’m trying to outdo those expectations. It’s going to be an eleganza extravaganza.“ — DM

Mrs. Bieber's First Met

Hailey Baldwin is a Met Gala vet, but this marks her first time back since marrying Justin Bieber. And the model nearly blended in with the pink carpet, donning a skin-tight, backless Alexander Wang dress that flared out in a long train and a high ponytail with a black bow. (One accessory she seemed to leave at home was Bieber himself, who didn't turn out to celebrate fashion's biggest night.) — ZS

Eye Spy With My Little Eye: Janelle Monae

Camp called, and wanted to let Monae know her entire look is on-point. The songstress-slash-actress didn't hold back, absolutely nailing the theme and turning heads in this artsy get-up with a fully-functioning winking eye. "It's magic," Monae told ET of her surreal, Picasso-inspired Christian Siriano gown. "Camp is in my DNA. It's a perfect theme."

Twitter spectators are already singling the outfit out as a favorite and calling for her to land a spot on our "Best Dressed" list. (Spoiler alert, she's definitely on it.) — DM

All That Glitters Is Emily Blunt

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Go Subtle (But Still Steal the Show)

Letting his wife shine, Hemsworth kept his outfit simple, sporting a classic black suit. Cyrus, meanwhile, wowed in a strapless black-and-green sequined dress with polka-dot sheer tights. She completed the look with chic bangs and silver teardrop earrings. While we definitely loved the look, it was a bit underwhelming for the over-the-top "camp theme." If anyone was going to go all out, it should have been Miley! — DM

"Pimperella" Tiffany Haddish Meets a Blonde Kris Jenner

Haddish pulled out all the stops with her look, interpreting the "camp" theme with a zebra-print Michael Kors suit paired with a black hat. "I feel like Pimperella!" she exclaimed to ET.

As Haddish was leaving the interview, she bumped into none other than Kris Jenner. "She ready!" Haddish called to the Kardashian matriarch. Of her own ensemble, Jenner revealed it was daughter Kylie Jenner who decided last-minute that she would be blonde for the night to match her Tommy Hilfiger ensemble.  — DM

Leto told ET, even passing over the head for Keltie Knight to hold.

"I can't tell who's hotter!" Knight joked.

"Oh, thank you very much. I appreciate that," Leto blushed. — DM

Ryan Murphy Gets Gwyneth Paltrow's Seal of Approval

"It's a tribute to Liberace and it weighs over 100 pounds," the American Horror Story maestro told ET of his pearled and sequined Christian Siriano number. And Murphy doesn't need your Best Dressed stamp of approval, because he's already got the only one that matters: Gwyneth Paltrow. "I sent her a picture of my outfit and she wrote, 'No!' So, I wrote back, 'Does that mean good?' and she said, 'Yes! Great!'"  — John Boone

What Is "Camp: Notes on Fashion"?

This year's Met Ball theme is based on the newest Costume Institute exhibition, "Camp: Notes on Fashion," which itself is based on Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on Camp."

Camp aesthetic embraces elements of irony and extravagance while combining high art and pop culture. "The essence of camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration," Sontag writes. "The hallmark of camp is the spirit of extravagance. Camp is a woman walking around in a dress made of 3 million feathers."

Speaking with Vogue over the weekend, curator Andrew Bolton explained why "camp" is the perfect theme for this year's gala. "When you look in history, there are moments when camp is really the defining aesthetic of its time: the '60s, the '80s, now," he said. "I think it's very much connected to politics. Camp has always been a political aesthetic, and you can't take the politics out of the aesthetic, particularly with camp." — DM
