Dolly Parton vs. Queen Latifah in 'Joyful Noise'

By

Joyful Noise stars Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah faceoff in their new movie out January 13, but before their on screen clash, the two music icons teamed up for a performance at Verizon's How Sweet the Sound Gospel Music Celebration Tour finale on Friday.

In Joyful Noise, a small town in Georgia faces a crisis when the economic recession makes it difficult for their gospel choir to compete in the touring competition that they've participated in for years. Dolly Parton's character faces her own individual crisis when Queen Latifah's character is appointed as choir director -- a job Dolly feels entitled to.

Both ladies have a gospel music background and they described the genre's appeal backstage at How Sweet the Sound.

"It's very uplifting," said Dolly. "Of course there's nothing more uplifting than songs about praise, because everybody -- especially in this day and time -- needs a little uplifting."
